Second Joyful Mystery - the Visitation

The spiritual FRUIT of praying the Second Joyful Mystery is CHARITY TOWARDS NEIGHBOUR.

An audio-video presentation of the Visitation
appears at the end of this page.

A Scriptural Rosary version for this
    decade is available here.
(Page can take a moment to load, and
text may appear further down page!)

The Visitation in Scripture - Luke chapter 1, from verse 39:
"During those days Mary set out and traveled in haste to the hill country to a town of Judah, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the infant [John the Baptist] leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, "Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled." And Mary said:

       "My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;
my spirit rejoices in God my savior.
       For He has looked upon his handmaid's lowliness;
behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed.
The Mighty One has done great things for me, and Holy is His name.
His mercy is from age to age to those who fear Him.
He has shown might with His arm, dispersed the arrogant of mind
                                                                                   and heart.
He has thrown down the rulers from their thrones but lifted up the
                                                                                         lowly.
The hungry He has filled with good things; the rich He has sent away
                                                                                          empty.
He has helped Israel His servant, remembering His mercy,
according to His promise to our fathers, to Abraham and to His
                                                                descendants forever."

Mary remained with [Elizabeth] about three months and then returned to her home."

In the Second Joyful Mystery, “Mary’s visitation to Elizabeth thus became a visit from God to His people”
(Article 717 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church).

Contemplate the Visitation during a short period of silence, then recite the following prayers:

While holding the single bead before the next group of 10, pray the 'Lord's Prayer' :
Our Father, who art in Heaven,
hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done
on earth, as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil, Amen.

On the next bead (first in the group of 10), pray the 'Hail Mary':
Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee!
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb,
Jesus.
Holy Mary, mother of God,
pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death, Amen.

Repeat the 'Hail Mary' 9 more times, for each remaining bead in the group of 10 (the 'decade').

Next, pray the 'Glory Be' :
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit!
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end, Amen.

Next, pray the 'Fatima Prayer' :
O my Jesus, forgive us (our sins), save us from the fires of Hell!
Lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of Thy mercy, Amen.

See rosaries with added 'Glory Be' & 'Fatima' beads!
